General note
Previously described under China - 11 hand tinted postcards of scenes in China published by F.C. Stephenson of the YPFM, Toronto Printed note on verso reads: Missions 2.--Tsunglin is a little city in the missionary district of Penhsien, and the picture gives an excellent idea of an audience gathered in from the street to listen to the sermon from the missionary. Possibly half a dozen in the foreground of the picture may be church members or inquirers, the rest are absolute heathen, just an ordinary street crowd come in out of curiosity to see the foreigner and to listen to the "doctrine." Anywhere, and almost at any time, in Western China, the missionary may be sure of a congregation of respectful and attentive listeners when he opens the door of the Gospel Hall and delivers to them his message.
