Biografie
Alexander James Irwin (1866-1956) was a Methodist/United Church minister, educator and temperance worker. He was born in Invermay, Ontario, in 1866 and studied at Victoria University. He was ordained in 1893. He ministered in Ontario, 1893-1913; taught New Testament language and literature at Wesley College, Winnipeg, 1913-1918, and was dismissed from the staff at the same time as Salem Bland. He ministered in Ontario again, 1920-1927. He served as Secretary of the Ontario Temperance Federation, 1927-1942; and of the Canadian Temperance Federation, 1929-1945, remaining an active executive member and honorary president until his death.
