General note
Previously described under Japan - Kokura - Evangelistic Work - Bible class being held for factory workers Mission location: Japan
General note
Typewritten note on piece of paper previously attached to verso reads: Kokura Jaeckel UCC ; In the factories there are two types of industrial evangelism. One is the aggressive evangelistic approach. Teams are sent out by the churches, and such teams have to be trained in the Christian approach to the problems of labor. This is most needed in factories where conditions are not good for the worker. The other approach is the regulation Bible class, and this is usually done in factories with good social services, with educated workers in good company housing, who get a fair salary and are proud of their company. The picture shows such a group being conducted weekly by Rev. Jaeckel in a glass factory. The request came from a Christian woman who holds an important position in the management. This type of group brings newcomers into contact with the church, and many later to baptism. From a basic Bible text, the group studies the philosophy of work from the Bible standpoint, and develops into a discussion of the Christian's duty in the practical problems of factory life.
