Administrative history
The Canadian Bible Society was established in 1904, out of the parent organization the British and Foreign Bible Society that operated to disseminate copies of scripture across England and the British Empire and had its origins in the Canadian colonies as far back as 1805. Organised by regions, local groups in Ontario were also earlier known as the Upper Canada Bible Society. The Bible Societies disseminated copies of scripture to colonists as well as targeting Native Peoples as part of evangelization efforts. In the twentieth century, Bible Society campaigns have included providing copies of the bible to soldiers during both World Wars as well as to immigrant communities. The organization continues today in Canada as part of the international United Bible Societies.
