The Canadian Coalition for Development was made up of representatives from various organizations and institutions, such as churches, trade unions and non-governmental organizations, dedicated to anti-poverty work in Canada and abroad. Representative organizations included the Canadian Welfare Council, Canadian Labour Congress, National Indian Brotherhood, the Canadian Council of Churches and other religious bodies. The group originated after a steering committee for the Coalition was first established by the Canadian Council of Churches and the Canadian Catholic Conference in June of 1969. Tax reform, First Nations affairs, citizens groups, and world development were part of the CoalitionÍs initiatives. Members of the United Church involved included Dr. Charles Forsyth (Co-Chairman, Founding Forum) and Rev. A. McCurdy.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of minutes, including of the March 13th Founding Forum and November 13-14th General Assembly held in Ottawa, and a summary document describing the organization's mandate and actions taken.
