Administrative history
Davenport-Perth United Church in Toronto was established in 1970 upon the union of Davenport Road United Church and Perth Avenue United Church. It is located at 1900 Davenport Road (the former Davenport Road building), across from Perth Avenue, between Lansdowne Avenue and Keele Street. In 2006, the church changed its name to Davenport-Perth Community Church. It is still an active congregation of the United Church of Canada.
Davenport Road United Church, also called Olde Davenport Road United Church, was established in 1925, formerly Methodist. In 1970, Davenport Road United Church amalgamated with Perth Avenue United Church to form Davenport-Perth United Church in the Davenport building. Davenport Road United Church traces its origins to 1818 when Methodist prayer meetings were held at the home of Bartholomew Bull in west Toronto. The first church building on the current site was built in 1857. The current building retains the east wall of the 1857 building, and is located at 1900 Davenport Road, across from Perth Avenue, between Lansdowne Avenue and Keele Street.
•Perth Avenue United Church was established in 1925, formerly Methodist. The congregation began as an off-shoot of St. Clarens Avenue Methodist Church. The first church building was opened in 1889 and was located at the corner of Ernest Avenue and Churchill (now Perth) Avenue; at that time, the congregation was known as Ernest Avenue Methodist Church. In 1892, the name was changed to Perth Avenue Methodist Church and in 1913, the congregation re-located to a new building at the corner of Perth and Wallace Avenue, just north and east of Bloor Street West and Dundas Street West. In 1970, Perth Avenue United Church amalgamated with Davenport Road United Church to form Davenport-Perth United Church in the Davenport building.
