Administrative history
The pastoral charge in Pickering that would come to be known as Dunbarton-Fairport was established as Dunbarton Pastoral Charge in 1925; formerly Presbyterian and Methodist; the pastoral charge originally included Dunbarton, Fairport, and Centennial Church in Scarborough; in 1950, Fairport and Centennial became part of the Centennial-Fairport-Rouge Pastoral Charge, leaving Dunbarton as a single point charge; by the mid-1950s, Fairport returned to Dunbarton Pastoral Charge; by the early 1970s, the pastoral charge was re-named Dunbarton- Fairport Pastoral Charge; in 1973, a new church was built which replaced both the Dunbarton and Fairport churches; since that time, the pastoral charge has included the single point Dunbarton-Fairport United Church. Dunbarton Presbyterian Church was established in 1835 in the village of Dunbarton in Pickering Township (now part of Pickering); in 1854, Canton (later Pickering Village) Presbyterian Church united with Dunbarton to form the Dunbarton-Canton congregation; in 1882, Erskine Presbyterian Church in Pickering Township united with Dunbarton-Canton to form the Dunbarton- Erskine congregation; in the following year, Melville Presbyterian Church in Highland Creek (now part of Scarborough) united with Dunbarton-Erskine to form the Dunbarton- Melville congregation; in 1899, Dunbarton and Melville separated to become single point charges once again.
