Administrative history
Central United Church, located at 194 Avondale Avenue in Stratford, was established in 1925, formerly Methodist. Central Methodist Church was established in 1845. The first church was located at lots 116 and 117 on Erie Street in Stratford. The church joined the United Church of Canada in 1925. A new church building was constructed on Avondale Avenue in 1962. It amalgamated with St. John's United Church in Stratford ca. 2015 to form Avondale United Church, using the Central church building

Label reads: "This photo of the eight Goforth brothers and their mother was taken following the baptism of all eight boys in Central United Church in 1929. Gordon, the youngest, is being held my his mother Emily and standing on the right is Bob, the oldest. Next to Bob is Roy, the second eldest. The other boys, from the left, are Russell, Arthur, Frank (Tony), Reid and Kenneth. The picture was taken in Queen's Park with the pavilion in the backgroud by the boys' father Leonard."
