Administrative history
Elverston-Trethewey United Church was established in 1972 after the Elverston - Trethewey Pastoral Charge was discontinued in 1971 with the closure of Trethewey Park United Church. The church was situated in the former Elverston Park United Church building at 10 Hopcroft Avenue until 1989, when it moved to 280 Culford Road. The church closed in 2001.
Elverside Pastoral Charge was a three-point pastoral charge formed in 1949, which included Elverston Park United, Harding Avenue United Church and Riverside United Church. It became a two-point charge in 1955 when Riverside United Church left and was then called Elverston-Trethewey Pastoral Charge.
Elverston Park United Church was established in 1927 as a United Church; prior to that, beginning in 1910, the congregation was part of the Church of Christ Disciples. The church was originally located at 176 Maple Leave Drive, which was later sold to the Reformed Church and in 1960, a new church was built at Hopcroft Avenue.
Trethewey United Church, located at Brookhaven and Trethewey Drives, was established on November 25, 1954. Prior to 1954, the congregation was known as Harding Avenue United Church, which had joined the United Church of Canada on November 22, 1946. Prior to that it was a Sunday School mission in the community of Hardington.
