Administrative history
The Evangelical United Brethren Church Canada Conference History Collection is an artificially gathered collection of historical records relating to nine local churches in Ontario. Wilmot Centre first had Evangelical services for German immigrants in the 1830s, and a church was built in 1850. In 1938 it was joined with Roseville as a two point charge, and remained with it until union with the United Church of Canada in 1968. Zion Church, Kitchener, was another Evangelical charge begun in the 1830s, with a congregation organized in 1839, and the denomination's first Canadian church erected in 1841. It was known as the mother church of the denomination in Canada, and several of the other Kitchener churches were its missionary offspring. Zion Church in New Hamburg, enjoyed a relationship with Wilmot Centre in the twentieth century, although German-speaking worshippers had engaged in Evangelical services in the area for much of the nineteenth century. Tavistock Church had its first class orgainzed in 1865, and a church was erected there in 1871, the same year that the Tavistock Mission was formed. By 1960 the Tavistock charge included a preaching appointment at South Easthope. Zorra Church, had been a part of the Tavistock Mission, but the work here was abandoned in 1923. South Easthope was another station on the Tavistock Mission into the twentieth century, and was later associated with Lingelbach, Ontario, as a circuit, before returnig to Tavistock as a two-point charge. Maitland Evangelical Mission was made up of McKillop and Colbourne stations in the 1910s, and was disbanded when these points became charges in the 1920s. McKillop Church was originally known as Logan's Church and was supplied from Sebringville in the nineteenth century. Later it was part of the Maitland Mission, and by the 1960s, the congregation had been attached to charges in Sebringville, Zurich and Listowel. Zion Evangelical in Elmwood, Ontario, was built in 1879, on a circuit that included Bentinck, Elmwood, Hanover, Chesley, Brant and Walkerville. Elmwood was later joined with Hanover as a two-point charge.
