The Ecumenical Partnerships Working Group was mandated with the following: to encourage and enhance ecumenical witness of Christ’s mission of love and justice through support for and solidarity with ecumenical partners; to enhance the policy and programming work of the Canadian churches in issues related to ecumenical partnerships of Inter Church Action; to exercise responsibility for the direction and planning of ecumenical partnerships.

The Middle East Reference Group (MERG) was mandated by the ICA Board in November 1999 to oversee the Middle East related program work of ICA and convene policy related to consultations when needed. MERG inherited the historic partnerships and responsibilities of the Development and Service Committee of the Canadian Council of Churches and the Ecumenical Partnerships Working Group which previously coordinated the Middle East program of ICA. MERG was responsible for coordinating and leading the ecumenical work of member churches in the Middle East on area of policy and advocacy, partnership, and forum and networking.

The Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (SAWG) was one of five working groups of the ICA. The predecessor to ICA, the ICFID, began funding agricultural projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America in 1974. In 1985-1986 the organization moved its focus to community based primary health and to sustainable agriculture. The sustainable agriculture program focused on innovative research and extension of sustainable agriculture in the above regions. They worked with intermediary NGO’s which provided assistance to grassroots NGO’s. With the amalgamation of ICFID and the Development and Service Committee into the ICA established the Sustainable Agriculture Working Group with a revised mandate: to promote transformative sustainable agriculture practise in selected countries through partnerships and funding relationships with both local intermediary and grassroots agencies; to encourage the collection and exchange of new learning agriculture; and to assist southern churches and non governmental organization in their advocacy of greater food security.
