Fryer is listed as the photographer of one of the photographs, although it is unknown if he was responsible for more of them, as multiple photography studios are listed on the slides, so it is likely that Hambley amalgamated lantern slides from several sources in order to create this presentation. It is also likely that several of the photographs, especially those depicting people posed in a studio, are reproductions of originals taken by noted Japanese photographer Kusakabe Kimbei in the nineteenth century.
