Series consists of a collection of records relating to the administrative, business and editorial side of publishing. It contains minutes of the Book Committee/Book and Publishing Committee, 1836-1874, and of its Western Section 1875-1926; records of the Book Steward, including correspondence, some personal, of William Briggs, 1879-1918; and business records, including ledgers on production jobs, indexes of printing jobs, 1895-1906, equipment purchase records, agreements with other publishers, cash and stock lists, and sales and annual reports from the Montreal Book Room (1889-1905). In addition, there are legal records relating to bequests and deeds in favour of the Book Room; labour records relating to wages and labour disputes (including files on the 1921 typographical workers strike); agreements with authors regarding publication; and memoirs and reminiscences concerning the early history of the Book Room.
Also included are the Presbyterian Church in Canada Sunday School and Board of Publication minutes, 1898-1926.
