Biographical history

John Guiness Laird (1823-1897) was a Methodist minister in Ontario. He was born in Ireland, came to Canada in 1847, was received on trial by the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canada in 1848, and was ordained in 1850. He served Wesleyan Methodist/Methodist charges in Canada West/Ontario, including Bowmanville (1876-1879), Barrie (1879-1880) Collingwood (1881-1883), Drummondville (1867-1869), Fergus (1870-1872), Hamilton (1859), London (1860-1861), Mount Pleasant (1862-1863), Orangeville (1884-1885); retired in Orangeville, 1886-1887), Owen Sound (1873-1876), Paris (1864-1866), Sarnia (1853-1855) and Thorold (1856-1858). He retired to London, Ontario, in 1884. He was elected President of Toronto Conference in 1881.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of sermons, addresses, notebooks, pocket register, and other papers (all undated); and correspondence, 1859, 1872; personal registers, baptisms, 1852-1896; marriages, 1853-1896, photocopy of burial register, 1873-1874; photocopy of baptism register, 1873-1876, 1880-1886, marriage stubs, 1873-1879.
