        History

        The Kitchener-Waterloo Council for World Refugee Year operated to help sponsor thirty male refugees originally from (former) Yugoslavia and living in Italian refugee camps. This Council was made up of Rev. O. P. Hossie, Trinity United Church (Kitchener, Ont.), as President, and Rev. Howard Brox, Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church (Waterloo, Ont.), as Vice President, as well as members from the community including school, banking institution, Salvation Army, YMCA, Unitarian Service Committee, Lutheran World Relief and other community and church groups. The Council organized sponsorship and financial support with local churches for refugees processed through the Canadian Government and the World Council of Churches, in accordance to 1960 named World Refugee Year.
