History
The General Conference of 1878 authorized Alexander Sutherland, General Secretary of the Methodist Church (Canada) Missionary Society, to organize a Woman's Missionary Society. In 1880, a society was formed in Hamilton, followed by other auxiliaries. On 1881 April 29, a resolution for the establishment of a Dominion body was successfully moved, and in November of the same year, the General Board was created. In 1925, it joined with similar societies of the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches to form the Woman's Missionary Society of The United Church of Canada.
