Administrative history

The Methodist New Connexion Church in Britain appointed an agent in 1837 to visit the Canadas and this agent commenced his work in Lower Canada. In 1840, an agent made a tour to Upper Canada. This led in 1841 to a union of the Canadian Wesleyan Methodists (also known as the Ryanites, who had separated from the Methodist Episcopal Church in Canada in 1828) and the Methodist New Connexion Church, initially using the name Canadian Wesleyan Methodist New Connexion, before becoming the Methodist New Connexion Church of Canada. Districts were created in 1849.

Custodial history

This material forms part of the General Council program of the United Church of Canada Archive.
