Biographical history
The first Methodist services in the Mountain View area were held on September 28th, 1902 at the South Vancouver School. In 1905, the Conference established the South Vancouver Circuit which included "Seacome Road" as one of its appointments. In 1908 the Conference decided the time had come to make Seacome Road a separate circuit, and it was then renamed "Mountain View Methodist Church." By 1909 the old building was no longer adequate and plans were made for a new church building. The new church was opened on December 18, 1910, but was destroyed less than two months later by fire on February 8, 1911. An intense effort by the congregation led to the construction of a new church by the end of the year, on November 26, 1911. Following church union in 1925, Mountain View Methodist became Mountain View United Church. The first Presbyterian services were held in the area on January 5, 1908. Westminster Presbyterian Church was dedicated on March 7, 1909. The congregation voted to enter Church Union in 1925 and the church became Westminster United Church. Shortly after union a new name was sought for the congregation, and on November 1925, the name of the church was changed to Bethany United Church. Bethany United Church and Mountain View United Church were amalgamated on January 1, 1928 and the name Mountain View United was continued following the amalgamation. A new church was built and was dedicated on April 4th, 1954. The Mountain View congregation faced financial difficulties throughout the 1990s. In 1997, the church building was sold to City View Baptist Church, although the Mountain View United congregation continued to worship there until 1998. In July, 1998, Mountain View United was amalgamated into Windsor United Church. The final services in the Mountain View church building were held on June 28, 1998. At that time, the congregation became known as Mountain View-Windsor United Church. Mountain View-Windsor United Church was itself closed in June of 2002, and the building was given to a Taiwanese United Church congregation called The Vancouver Tai Kong United Church.
