Biographical history

Orland Glen Taylor (1907-1997) was a United Church minister in Ontario. born in North Norwich Township, ON in 1907.  He attended Quaker Street Public School, then Norwich Highschool and Hamilton Normal School.  He was a public school teacher from 1926-1930, then attended Victoria College from 1930-1934, receiving a B.A.  During the summer months he did home mission work at the following charges, often traveling by horse back or bicycle:  Red Lake, 1934; Bury’s Green, 1935-1936; Reven (Alberta), 1936.  Afterwards, he attended Emmanuel College from 1934-1937 receiving a diploma.  He was ordained in Windsor in June of 1937, and also married his wife Doris Margaret Lynes that same year.  He served the following charges and churches in Ontario over his 36 years of ministry:  Lawrence Charge, 1937-1943, Embro, 1943-1950, Fergus, 1950-1958; Tillsonburg (St. Paul’s United), 1958-1969; Napanee (Trinity United), 1969-1973.  He was Secretary of Elgin Presbytery from 1940-1942, and Chair of Oxford Presbytery in 1949 and 1962, and Guelph Presbytery in 1956.    Taylor retired from ministry in 1973 but continued doing supply work for ten years afterwards.
