Administrative history

The purpose of the Conference Obituary Committee was to prepare obituaries of deceased ministry personnel and missionaries of BC Conference, as well as obituaries of their spouses, for inclusion in the reports to the BC Conference general meeting. Over time, the scope of the reports narrowed to include deceased ministry personnel only, and the task was absorbed by Conference staff (and later, Pacific Mountain Regional staff).

Custodial history

Scope and content

Fonds consists of three records series: Minutes of Committee meetings (1929-1935); Correspondence of Committee chair (1929-1955); and Reports and correspondence (1970-1973). Most of the records were compiled by Rev. John C. Goodfellow, who was chair of the Committee for much of the period from 1925 to the 1960s. Most of the obituaries transferred to the Archives are stored in the Pacific Mountain Regional Council Archives Reference collection (biographical files), rather than with the records of the Obituary Committee.
