    Biographical history

Sunday School services in Poplar were first held in the home of a local resident in 1922. Soon the growth of the Sunday school necessitated the seeking of larger quarters. It was agreed to join with the Poplar Community Association and build a community Hall, which could be used on Sundays for religious purposes. The Hall was built and opened in January of 1923. After the Sunday School became established, the need of a Church Service was felt and once a month services were held by the Anglican Church from Abbotsford. With approaching church union it was decided to join the Union. Poplar United Church held its first services on September 17, 1925. In July 1928, the first resident Minister was appointed. In early 1930 one acre of land was donated on the corner of King and Clearbrook Road for the building of a Church. The dedication service was held on September 28, 1930. The Pastoral Charge at this time consisted of Poplar, Clayburn and Mt. Lehman. From 1941 until 1966 Poplar United was a part of the Trinity Memorial United Church Pastoral Charge. In 1966, due to low attendance, Poplar United church was closed.
