Histoire administrative
Queen Street United Church at 765 Queen Street West in Toronto was formerly a Methodist Church. In 1864 Primitive Methodists had established a Sunday School on Spadina Avenue in the Queen Street vicinity, and later built a church not far to the west of that corner (Euclid Avenue Methodist Church). A Wesleyan Methodist Church, Queen Street Methodist, erected in 1838 was not far east of the Euclid Avenue Church. In 1923 Queen Street closed and the two congregations were joined as Queen Street Methodist, and two years later, Queen Street United.
The old Queen Street Church was re-opened in 1928 as the Church of All Nations, in which English-language services were conducted for an International Congregation made up of people from several different national groups (including Japanese, Portuguese, and German). In 1950 the Church of All Nations was joined to Queen Street United, and many of the national groups which had worshipped there began to form their own congregations. The Toronto Japanese Church originally occupied the premises of the old Church of All Nations, before moving to its current location. In 1960 Queen Street United became home to a German Evangelical congregation for a period of four years.
In addition to its church service, the Queen Street United Church was also a social service centre for the United Church. Of the many activities offered through the church (summer camps, social clubs, English tutoring, etc.), one outstanding service was the Clothing Distribution Centre which opened in 1961, to provide clothes to needy families.
The church amalgamated with College Street United Church in 1974, and retained that name in the College Street building.
