Scope and content
Ecumenical Relations and Interchurch and Interfaith Relations had previously been a part of the Division of World Outreach, as well as the Division of Mission in Canada before the work was transferred to Justice, Global and Ecumenical Relations following a major unit reorganization in 2002. Ecumenism being at the heart of the United Church’s identity and mission, the work of the JGER unit was grounded in a commitment to “whole world ecumenism” for the mending of the world. In addition to the three area portfolios (Asia/Pacific, Africa/Middle East and Caribbean/Latin America), the unit supported global ecumenical partnerships through many world-wide organizations, and especially the Canadian Council of Churches, KAIROS and the World Council of Churches. A primary focus of the ecumenical office was inter-church dialogue, especially Anglican-United Church, Roman-Catholic United Church, United-Church Muslim, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Christian Reformed Churches and included an Aboriginal Dialogue.
In 2013, the Justice, Global and Ecumenical Relations unit became a part of Church in Mission Unit.
Series consists of the following subseries; Records of Program Coordinators, 1999-2012; Records re Ecumenical Partnerships, 1978-2013.
