Biographical history

George Henry Kenney (1833-1912) was a Methodist minister and theologian. He was born in Halton County, Ontario. He was educated at the Oakville Grammar School, then studied at the New York Conference Seminary. He was appointed Principal of Hobart Seminary in 1857, and of Plattsville Seminary in 1858. He returned to Canada in 1859, was received on trial by the Methodist Church in 1860 and send to the Grand River Mission by the late Richard Jones. He was ordained in 1864 and married Lydia McCollough. Kenney worked in North Wakefield, Grenville, Riceville, Bearbrook and Wingham Circuits, when, through failing health, he was compelled to seek rest in superannuation for four years, after which he travelled to Haliburton for one year, and sought superannuation again. After his health improved he travelled to Dunsford and Seagrave Circuits, and from there superannuated permanently in 1900. Afterward, he resided with family Seagrave, Port Perry, and in Pennsylvania until he passed away in 1912.
