        General note

In 1927, the United Church of Canada Board of Home Missions Immigration Committee and the Y.M.C.A. Migration Department (Great Britain and Canada) agreed to cooperate in establishing a Church Nomination Scheme of Immigration for British boys and young men wishing to emigrate to Canada. Responding to applications submitted to the Board of Home Missions by prospective Canadian employers, the Y.M.C.A. Migration Department selected a requisite number of suitable emigrees. Boys and young men arriving in Canada under this scheme, were placed in various employment situations, most obtaining work on farms. A hostel established by the Board of Home Missions near Norval, Ontario served as a residence for boys and young men who were seeking positions. Between 1928, when the first group arrived, and 1934, over 1500 boys and young men immigrated to Canada under the Scheme. A number of families were also placed.
