Smithfield-Carman Pastoral Charge was formed in 1984 when Smithfield United Church and Carman United Church split from Brighton Pastoral Charge. Prior to being part of Brighton Pastoral Charge, these two churches had formed Smithfield Pastoral Charge, established in 1925, formerly Methodist. It was discontinued ca. 1968 when Smithfield and Carman joined Brighton. Smithfield-Carman Pastoral Charge was a two-point charge until Carman has amalgamated with Smithfield at Smithfield as Smithfield-Carman, April 30, 2017.
Smithfield Methodist Circuit was active from at least 1884, and included Mount Carmel and Carman; it was discontinued in 1925 when the United Church was formed.
