Biographical history

It is unclear exactly as to when South Burnaby began as a Methodist congregation. According to a history (typescript in vertical file) compiled in 1969, a Methodist church was built in 1912 and named Dundonald. The same history notes that the congregation was closed from 1918-1919 and reopened in 1920. During its Methodist years it is unclear from secondary sources as to which circuit or mission the congregation belonged. After church union in 1925, however, Dundonald was part of the River Avenue Pastoral Charge in Vancouver Presbytery. In 1930 it was combined with Burnaby Lake and East Burnaby United Church to form the Burnaby United Pastoral Charge in Westminster Presbytery. In 1950 Dundonald became a separate charge and subsequently changed its name to its current name, South Burnaby United Church. The congregation merged with West Burnaby United Church on January 1, 2017 to form Jubilee United Church.

Biographical history

Jubilee United Church was created through the amalgamation of South Burnaby and West Burnaby congregations on January 1, 2017. The new congregation maintained both properties. Shortly after amalgamation, the West Burnaby building on Sussex Avenue was demolished and underwent a major property development project that included a new church building as well as the new Pacific Mountain Regional Council offices. The new building officially opened in September 2022.
