Administrative history
St. James-Bond United Church, located at 1066 Avenue Road in Toronto, combined two former downtown churches, which were relocated to the uptown location around 1929. It closed in June 30, 2005 with the amalgamation with Fairlawn Height United Church, retaining the Fairlawn Height building and name.
St. James Square Presbyterian Church was an early Presbyterian Church in Toronto, originally known as Second United Presbyterian Church about 1853. In 1857 a church was opened at Victoria and Gould streets in Toronto, and the congregation took the name, Gould Street Presbyterian around 1861. This building was sold in 1877 and the congregation moved to St. James Square, taking that name in 1879. It joined with the United Church in 1925.
Bond Street Congregational Church, initially called Second Congregational Church of Toronto, began in 1849 in the downtown core. This church was closed about 1928, the congregation met in the Masonic Hall on Eglinton Avenue in the city, and later in a portable building before opening the current edifice in 1929 when it was joined by St. James.
