Biographical history
St. John's United Church can trace its roots back to the Howe Sound Circuit of the Methodist Church, which began work in the area in the 1890s. After church union in 1925, congregations in Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Sechelt, and other points became part of the West Howe Sound Pastoral Charge of The United Church of Canada. In 1954, the United Church purchased the building for St. John's in Davis Bay. By the 1970s, the pastoral charge consisted of two points only: Gibsons United Church and St. John's. To accommodate growth, the St. John's congregation built a new church on Davis Bay Road, and it was officially opened in 1990. In 1997, Gibsons and St. John's became two independent congregations.
