Biografie
Thora Mills (1905-1992), born Thora McIlroy, was the daughter of Rev. W.A. McIlroy who was a Presbyterian minister. She graduated from Victoria University in 1925, and with her husband Ralph S. Mills became active patrons and volunteers of The United Church of Canada, The Victor Home for Girls, and the National and International Councils of Women. She used her articles to spot light issues and to educate others, writing about forgotten pioneers of the Presbyterian Church in the north and its role during the gold rush. Championing for others, Thora Mills was an advocate for diabetes since her son, Howard (who would become General Secretary) developed the disease in 1947, co-founding the Diabetic Association of Ontario. As well, she advocated for Native Americans raising awareness regarding health and living conditions in the North and Labrador. Mills was awarded the Order of Canada in 1985.
