Administrative history

The Church Street Methodist Church, Bowmanville, formerly part of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, became part of the Methodist Church of Canada with the union of the Methodist churches in 1884. The church was located at the intersection of Church and Division Streets. In 1925, the church joined the United Church of Canada. Trinity United Church in Bowmanville was located at this former church site.

Administrative history

The Bible Christian Circuits in Canada began as missions based out of England. In the early 1850's the Canadian missions were self supporting and in the mid 1850's they became the Canadian Conference of the Bible Christian Church.
Bowmanville Bible Christian Church consisted of the preaching points in of the town of Bowmanville, village of Haydon, Tyrone in Darlington Township, Bethesda in Darlington Township, Salem in Darlington Township, Providence in Darlington Township, as well as the village of Orono and the village of Leskard in Clarke township. In 1884 the Canadian Conference of the Bible Christian Church joined the various Methodist churches to form the Methodist Church of Canada. The preaching point in the town of Bowmanville was located at the intersection of Queen and Division Streets, and became Queen Street Methodist Church.

Fonds consists of the marriage records of Bowmanville Bible Christian Circuit, including a marriage register for the years 1858-1878, and a single marriage stub for peterboro[ugh] 1884; records of baptisms 1860-1890, marriages 1879-1887, 1893-1903; and other records of Church Street Methodist Church,1838-1925; records of baptisms1900-2022, marriages 1900-2021, and burials 1900-2022, and other records of Trinity United Church.
