Administrative history

Trinity United Church was established in 1925 and was originally known as Cobourg United Church; formerly Cobourg Methodist Church, which in turn was the result of the 1897 union of Division Street Methodist Church (formerly Wesleyan) and King Street Methodist Church (formerly King Street Methodist Episcopal Church and Cobourg Bible Christian Church); Cobourg United Church took the name Trinity United Church in 1926; in 1929, Trinity United received the members of King Street United Church (formerly Cobourg Congregational Church), which closed in that year.

Administrative history

Cobourg Congregational Church was established in 1973. In 1925, the church became a United Church named King Street United Church. The United Church closed in 1929.

This material forms part of the Ontario Regional Councils program of the United Church of Canada Archive.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of records of baptisms 1902-1923, marriages 1903-1922 and burials 1902-1923, of Cobourg Congregational Church, 1873-1923; records of Cobourg Bible Christian Church, 1849-1881; records of King Street Methodist Church in Cobourg 1975-1897, includes King Street Methodist Episcopal Church, and a reference to the property of Mallory Church in Haldimand Township; records, including baptisms, 1832 [ found in the quarterly board minutes], and marriages, 1858-1892, and other records of Division Street Methodist Church in Cobourg (also includes Division Street Wesleyan Methodist Church, Cobourg Wesleyan Methodist Circuit including points in Grafton, Baltimore, Plainville, and Colborne, 1831-1922; Baptisms, marriages and burials 1892-1920, and other records re. union with Presbyterians (1925) of Cobourg Methodist Church, 1892-1925; baptisms 1898-1932, marriages 1898-1944, and burials 1898-1931,1939-1957, and other records of Trinity United Church in Cobourg (also includes Cobourg Methodist Church and Cobourg United Church), 1898-1982.
