The United Church of Canada Archives in Toronto is made up of two repositories: the General Council Archives, the highest legislative court and national organizing body of United Church, as well as the Ontario Regional Councils Archives which consists of Canadian Shield Regional Council, Antler River Watershed Regional Council, Western Ontario Waterways Regional Council, Horseshoe Falls Regional Council, Shining Waters Regional Council, East Central Ontario Regional Council and parts of Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council.

The Archives are committed to acquiring, preserving and making available for research, in accordance with accepted principles and procedures, records, private documents and publications in all media pertaining to the history of the General Council Offices and Ontario regional councils and communities of faith, including the former Conferences and presbyteries of the Central Ontario region.

Local records are held across the country by the United Church Archives Network. Each archival facility operates independently and has unique holdings and finding aids. Please consult the Archives Directory available on our website for searching for records outside of the General Council or Ontario Regional Councils Archives' purview (https://www.unitedchurcharchives.ca/about-us/archives-staff-circle/).

The United Church of Canada Archives includes the General Council Archives and the Ontario Regional Councils Archives.

Material types within our collections include textual records, photographs, audiovisual and architectural records.

Our collections include the following:
• archival records created by The United Church of Canada, including General Council records, Conference, presbytery, and pastoral charge records from all five Conferences
• archival records created by antecedent denominations, including Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregationalist, and Union entities, prior to church union in 1925
• archival records created by individuals or organizations affiliated with The United Church of Canada, including former staff, former Moderators and ministry personnel, overseas personnel, ecumenical and inter-church organizations
• library collections include monographs, serials, pamphlets, vertical files, and directories of ministers

Please note that our archival holdings are continuously expanded upon receipt of new materials and our finding aids may have since been updated. Contact us if you have any questions or would like a current copy of a finding aid.

The Archives is accepting researchers by appointment only from Tuesday to Thursday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Archives is located within the Fred Victor CRC building at 40 Oak St. Upon entry, take the stairs, located to the right, one floor down. Our door is further to the right.

The building is wheelchair accessible.
