Administrative history
Rowntree Memorial United Church was opened in 1955. Bellwood Park United Church, located at the corner of Cheapside and Elliott Streets, opened in 1948. The congregation had grown too big for the building and a new, larger building was contructed in 1955 on the same site and re-named Rowntree Memorial United Church in memory of the parents, George and Pheobe Ann Rowntree, of donor Chester Rowntree. It is still an active congregation of the United Church.
Wellington Street United Church, located at 115 Wellington Street in London, was established in 1925, formerly Methodist. Wellington Street Methodist Church was established circa 1875 as a result of a decision by North Street, Dundas Street and Clarence Street churches to build a new church at the corner of Wellington and Grey streets. The church building was completed in 1876. The church joined the United Church of Canada in 1925. It amalgamated with Rowntree Memorial United Church in London on January 1, 2012.
