Administrative history

Wesley United Church was established in 1925, formerly Methodist; it closed ca. 1958. Hamilton Wesleyan Methodist Circuit was established ca. 1835; it was discontinued ca. 1867 when three new Hamilton circuits were formed. Hamilton Wesleyan Methodist Centre Circuit was established ca. 1867 when Hamilton Wesleyan Methodist Circuit was split in three; it was discontinued in 1874 when the Methodist Church of Canada was formed. John Street Wesleyan Methodist Church was established ca. 1839 as Brick Church; it joined the Methodist Church of Canada in 1874. Wesley Methodist Church was established in 1874, formerly Wesleyan Methodist; it took in the Gore Street Methodist Church congregation in 1909, and was briefly known around that time as Central Methodist Church, before it joined the United Church in 1925. Gore Street Methodist Church was established ca. 1867 as a Methodist Episcopal church; it closed in 1909, its congregation joining Wesley Methodist Church, which was then briefly called Central Methodist Church before reverting to its prior name.

Fonds consists of baptisms, 1840-1843, 1848-1851, marriages, 1842-1848, of Hamilton Wesleyan Methodist Circuit; records of Hamilton Wesleyan Methodist Centre Circuit (includes Hamilton Wesleyan Methodist Circuit, John Street Wesleyan Methodist Church), 1847-1872; Trustees minutes of John Street Wesleyan Methodist Church, Hamilton, 1845-1873; records of Wesley Methodist Church, Hamilton (Includes Hamilton Wesleyan Methodist Centre Circuit, John Street Wesleyan Methodist Church), 1867-1925; records of Gore Street Methodist Church, Hamilton, 1880-1908; records of Wesley United Church, Hamilton (includes Wesley Methodist Church), 1913-1956.
