Biographical history
William Henry Hincks (1859-1944) was a lawyer and a Methodist minister in Ontario. Born in London, England, William Henry Hincks studied law and theology at Victoria University (LL.B., D.D.). Ordained in 1884 into the Methodist Church, he served rural circuits in London Conference, 1881-1895; and Methodist and United churches in Toronto, 1895-1927. He served as President of Toronto Conference, pioneered methods in religious education, and was active in welfare work. He was active in establishing Toronto Western Hospital and in enlarging Toronto General Hospital; he was also nationally known for his work in clarifying existing marriage laws.
