Biographical history
William Thomas Mercer (1904-) was a United Church minister in the Maritimes and Quebec. He was born in Sunnyside, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland to William Mercer and Mariah Harriet French. He graduated from Mount Allison University and Pine Hill Divinity Hall with a Bachelor of Theology and Honours in Church History. He was ordained in 1933 and served at the following charges: Pacquet, Hamilton Inlet, Change Island, Sambro, Donkin, Mount Stewart, Springhill, Centenary Montreal and Laparie Charge. He was the chairman of three maritime Presbyteries, Superintendent of St. Columba House, Assistant Minister for Shut-In Visitation at St. Andrew’s Westmount and very involved in temperance work. He married Mary Benson and had four children.
